Traveling to Ocean Grove

In fact, Ocean Grove boasts the largest number of authentic Victorian structures in one location of anywhere in the nation. It was entered into the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 and the New Jersey State Register of Historic Places in1977.
Founded in 1869 as an outgrowth of the camp meeting movement in the United States, by the early 20th century this popular Christian meeting ground became known as the “Queen of Religious Resorts.”The community’s land is still owned by the camp meeting association and leased to individual homeowners and businesses. Ocean Grove remains the longest-active camp meeting site in the United States.
The most impressive structure in Ocean Grove, and the center of activity since 1894, is the Great Auditorium. It is used for Sunday services in the summer and its pipe organ is one of the 20 largest in the world. From May to September of each year, 114 tents are erected around the Great Auditorium.
