Update on Beach and Boardwalk – June 9, 2014

Replacement of the Boardwalk is underway – this we know from the loud banging sounds of the pile driver all last week.  The good news is it will be done by July 4th weekend and a ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, July 6th.  The lighting on the existing boardwalk has also been repaired and the Memorial Benches and Flower Urns that survived the storm are back in place.  The repairs to the north end of the boardwalk have been postponed until after the summer season so the blacktop path connecting Ocean Grove to Asbury Park will remain in place throughout the summer.

There’s good news about the beach as well. The Army Corps of Engineers have completed their beach replenishment program which has doubled the size of the beach. So you will have a longer walk from the top of the beach to the water, but more space to spread out.  Hopefully this will avoid the necessity for other beach dwellers to poach on “your space”!

The Jersey Shore is expecting a fabulous “comeback” summer.  The phones at our inns have been ringing off the hook – so if you are planning a visit to the Ocean Plaza or the Ocean View Inn this summer be sure to make your reservations soon.  Call us at 732-774-6552, or book online from our website.
